Climate change
Climate change has always been, to date, caused by natural phenomena such as changes in solar radiation and volcanic eruptions. However, man’s activities have accelerated this process by increasing the emissions of carbon dioxide and other gases that worsen the greenhouse effect in the atmosphere. The growth of industrial populations and zones and growing energy use (especially energy generated from fossil fuels such as oil, natural gas and coal) have contributed to increasing the average temperature by 0.6ºC over the last century.
The United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) defines this phenomenon as "a change of climate which is attributed directly or indirectly to human activity that alters the composition of the global atmosphere and which is in addition to natural climate variability observed over comparable time periods.”
